Name: ____________________Worked example
- The goal: write the same fraction with the smallest possible numbers, for example 6/8 = 3/4.
- Find a number that divides both the numerator (top) and the denominator (bottom).
- Example: 6/8. Both can be divided by 2: 6 ÷ 2 = 3 and 8 ÷ 2 = 4.
- Answer: 3/4. The fraction is done when no number divides both anymore.
- Check: read the question again. Does your answer give what was asked, with the right unit? Work backwards to see that it fits. ✓

About this generator
Fractions are one of the big stepping stones in math, and they need a lot of varied practice. This generator covers the whole path. Pupils start by simplifying fractions using common factors and converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. Next they connect fractions with decimals and percentages, so that ¾, 0.75 and 75 % are seen as the same amount. Adding and subtracting fractions starts with equal denominators and moves on to different denominators that need a common denominator. Finding a fraction of an amount links fractions to division and appears as word problems about marbles, pages, money and distances, with the unit shown in the answer key. Fractions are printed as real stacked fractions, not with a slash, so the sheets look like a textbook. Every task is calculated in your browser, the answers are always fully simplified, and each new version has different numbers. No account is needed.
